Why is strength training important for Women?

Strength training keeps our bodies strong and healthy.   Strength training triggers hormones that increase fat burning and increases your basal metabolic rate (the number of calories you burn as your body performs basic life-sustaining functions).

It is recommended that all women strength train at least 2-3 times per week.

Women in the menopause transition and beyond should prioritise strength training as hormonal changes will make it harder to maintain muscle which in turn can lead to osteoporosis.

These hormonal changes also increase the amount of body fat we store so maintaining lean muscle will assist in burning more body fat.

Who should try strength training?

The beauty is strength training is anyone can do it.

Beginners can start with bodyweight to build strength, improve posture, and enhance overall physical well-being.

Strength training is particularly important for older adults to combat age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia), maintain bone density, and improve balance, thus helping reduce the risk of falls and fractures.

Strength training is an effective tool for weight management because it helps increase muscle mass, which in turn boosts metabolism and promotes fat loss.

Strength training can be beneficial for individuals recovering from injuries or seeking to prevent them. Targeted exercises can help strengthen muscles and joints, improve stability, and enhance overall resilience.

Under professional supervision, strength training can be adapted to accommodate individuals with certain health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, and arthritis.

It can help manage symptoms, improve functionality, and enhance overall quality of life.
